Gaelic games on the Jersey Shore

Prior to the founding of the Jersey Shore Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in 2013, the need for an organized approach to staging Gaelic Games was truly unmet.  From the many Irish families residing in the area to those just wanting to learn about the Gaelic Games based on their exposure to them in other areas, there was a large population with a desire for a club where children and adults alike could gather, grow their skill set, socialize, and participate in all aspects of the Gaelic Games.  Through the hard work of several dedicated individuals, The Jersey Shore GAA project was launched in 2013.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Gaelic Games, these organized events include….

  • Children’s Football Clinics on Saturday mornings at Dorbrook Park in Colts Neck
  • Men’s Hurling on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Maclearie Park in Belmar.
  • Irish Riveria Cup in coordination with The Irish Festival at the Jersey Shore every September in Sea Girt, NJ

Now that the club itself is established, the next objective is to set up regular practices and games.

Although the Jersey Shore GAA is still in its beginning years, it has undoubtedly provided kids and adults with a new sporting outlet, where they can learn new skills, socialize, and compete in the games.

Our Men’s hurling team has been competing at the Junior B level and our minor team competed for the first time last season.

We recently partnered with Monmouth County Recreation, in hopes of enhancing our recruitment of the children and teens through the many marketing initiatives undertaken by the County. Registration can be found at

Another exciting event will be held on September 16th. The Irish Riveria Cup will be hosted at the Irish Festival of the Jersey Shore, on the ocean, in beautiful Sea Girt NJ.   We are currently seeking hurling and football teams. Teams consist of 7 players and you can sign up as a team or individually and be assigned to a team by emailing
